Relocation of County Archives in Aylesbury to High Wycombe

County  Archives Relocation

You may have seen this recent report on the BBC website about the potential relocation of the County’s Archives in Aylesbury to the Tesco site in the Eden Centre in High Wycombe.  For those to the north of the county this would make access challenging. Milton Keynes, as the article indicates would be keen to have the  archives, relating to the city transferred to MK, before any such move to High Wycombe. The Milton Keynes Forum, the Buckinghamshire Gardens Trust and many other groups are waiting to see  more detail of the proposals.

The council has said in a report: “[Tesco] had intended to vacate the property in its entirety, but following discussions with the council is willing to downsize into a refitted ground floor, on a new occupational lease, vacating the first and part of the second floor.

“The strongrooms that house the archives are at full capacity and do not meet current standards.”

Plans include relocating Discover Bucks Museum’s collections to the store from its headquarters in Halton.
