Gardens Trust Autumn Programme

The Gardens Trust our “umbrella”organisation has a splendid programme of events lined up for County Gardens Trust members this Autumn.

Online

Don’t miss your chance to catch our first series of  A History of Gardens: recordings of these five talks are available to view until 13 September. The second series, which explores 17th-century plants and gardens, starts on Tuesday 10 September. Both series are sponsored by Wooden Books. On Wednesday 25 September we’re pleased to offer a special lecture in our Restoration in Action series, examining plans for the Walled Gardens at Burghley House, the extraordinary Elizabethan mansion with grounds designed by George London and Capability Brown. Presented in partnership with Northamptonshire Gardens Trust.

Take the chance to browse our October online events as well, including Gardens and the Written Word and the series celebrating the launch of our book Unforgettable Gardens.

In-person

There are just two tickets left for our special behind-the-scenes trip to William Robinson’s gardens at Gravetye Manor in Sussex on 19 September. Strictly Gardens Trust members only.

Open to everyone, our annual Historic Landscape Assembly on 22 October will explore the challenges and opportunities facing our historic parks and gardens. In-person and online tickets available.

We also have three great London lectures lined up:

• Abigail Carr on 9 October talking about South Shields Park: in which Beauty and Pure Air could be United. Abigail, the young winner of our prestigious Mavis Batey essay prize last year, will be presenting her fascinating research on a 19th century public park in Tyne & Wear.

The Making of Charlton House Garden: from Jacobean Formality to Victorian Pleasure Gardens with historian Dr Stella Butler on 25 October, exploring the stories behind this hidden gem of a garden in south-east London.

The Origins of the Courts and Gardens of Cambridge University by Dr Ann Benson on 21 November, showing how the early history of Cambridge shaped the designed landscapes of its colleges.
