One of the most important activities of the Trust is its research into Buckinghamshire’s parks, gardens and open spaces.
Our Research and Recording Group research@bucksgardenstrust.org.uk investigates and records the history of individual parks and gardens to ascertain their historic significance, record their current condition and inform their future conservation and development.
Our Research Group is friendly, lively and very active; we meet at Buckinghamshire Council offices about every six weeks to report on research findings and share good research practice. Volunteers are also invited to attend training days and educational visits, both locally and further afield. The Group’s research is used to raise awareness and inform owners and those responsible for the management of historic parks and gardens. Importantly, it is also used to inform the Trust’s responses to planning applications that may affect a site on the local or national Register.
Our all-important research findings feed into not only our local planning authority but Parks & Gardens UK and the Historic England List as well as being available for access to all online.

Our group are discovering a wealth of information about each site, and once their reports on each site are completed they are published here. Hard copies are only provided to the property’s owners, Buckinghamshire Council’s planning department and their Historic Environment Register and Buckinghamshire Archives.

In April 2020 Buckinghamshire became a unitary authority, the former districts all coming under the control of Buckinghamshire Council. Until November 2021 we continued to use the four district names but from that date we have used the names of the new equivalent areas, as listed in brackets below.
