This stunning garden has been created over the last ten years by Rob Cooper and Tristan Hanley. The cottage was built in 1749 in a man-made dell created by the extraction of house clay for the local tile and brick industry.
The dell creates an idyllic spot, which has been beautifully planted with cottage plants, including many roses and is a haven for wildlife. A long border extends from the rear of the house, there is also a secret garden, a moon arch, sculptures and seating areas.
This visit starts at the Memorial Hall in Hedgeley with a short talk by Rob and then a short walk to the cottage where you will be free to wander around the garden and enjoy a delicious cream tea.
Described by visitors as ‘a real gardener’s garden’. This is a fairly new 1½ acre garden set around a Grade II listed former brickmaker’s cottage (not open). The garden features borders packed full of perennials, a small meadow, and a small orchard, creating a haven for wildlife, with over 20 different types of butterfly spotted in 2023.
Please note the garden has narrow paths, so please wear sturdy shoes as not all areas are paved and there are some grassed slopes. Unfortunatly the garden is not suitable for wheelchairs.
