Buckinghamshire Gardens Trust members have been invited to attend a guided tour by Richard Wheeler (Bucks GT member)of Buscot Gardens, Faringdon in aid of restoration and repairs of the Church of St Peter at Alvescot on Sunday 11th August 5.45 pm
Tickets: £30 see below
By the kind permission of Lord and Lady Faringdon and James and Lucinda Henderson we are delighted to be able to offer this invitation to a very special and unique event in aid of the repair and restoration of the Church of St Peter at Alvescot.
The Pleasure Grounds were begun in the late 18th century to complement the elegant Palladian house, which dates from around 1780. Over the last 127 years these have been enhanced by the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Barons Faringdon and are continually changing and developing. There are several distinct gardens at Buscot, the most prominent of which is the water garden (one of Britain’s finest) designed by Harold Peto in the early twentieth century.
The event will begin with wine and canapés. This will be followed by a tour of the gardens led by Richard Wheeler. He has an incredible knowledge of practical garden history, the iconology of gardens and their understanding and restoration.
We do hope that you will be able to join us for an enjoyable evening at Buscot, one of Oxfordshire’s best-kept and most delightful secrets. Booking details and ticket price are on the attached flier. ”
