Apple Weekend at Waterperry Gardens: 12 & 13th October

Waterperry Gardens

Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces,

I would still plant my apple tree.

Martin Luther

It’s Apple Weekend at Waterperry Gardens this weekend. Come and help us celebrate on the 12th and 13th of October.

It’s a great time of year for us. All the big events are over and autumn is creeping in.

Nature has done us proud this year and the five acres of orchard here have provided a massive splurge of abundant produce: the pickers have been staggering with the weight of the crop.

This weekend is an opportunity to see the whole of the estate at it’s best.

So what is there to do and see?

The gardens are still looking beautiful with masses of Aster led colour and the leaves are starting to turn. Jenny Pickford’s large metal and glass plant sculptures are out there complimenting the plants.

There are sixteen different varieties of apples and apple juices to try and to buy: all made and grown here. We have loads of lovely apple trees for sale here also and it’s a great time of year to plant one (even if the world is about to go to pieces).

The teashop has gone to town making all sorts of apple based goodies: toffee apples, chutneys, cakes and pie.

You can do a tour of the orchard with the experts. If you have an apple or pear tree in your garden and you have always wanted to know what variety it is then bring us an apple, and a bit of branch if you can, and we should be able to identify it for you.

The museum will have a stall selling various interesting antique items. There are other stalls including a blacksmith and a wood turner. The Morris men will be dancing on Saturday.

As far as I can tell the weather forecast for the weekend is looking pretty good which will make a welcome change.

Best wishes from us all at Waterperry House and Gardens..
