Celebrating 40 years of England’s Register of Parks and Gardens

Did you know that Sheffield Botanical Gardens was one of the first to be added in May 1984?

The Register now lists more than 1700 sites today and is absolutely vital to our work – as a statutory consultee, local planning authorities must consult the Gardens Trust anytime a planning application may affect a Grade I, II* and II listed park or garden, all of which are on the Register. Without this list, we simply wouldn’t be able to help protect England’s historic parks, gardens and other designed landscapes.
