Visit to the RHS Lindley Library
The Royal Horticultural Society Lindley Library is in the beautiful Edwardian headquarters of the Royal Horticultural Society at 80 Vincent Square, London SW1P 2PE.
The Society has had a library for more than 200 years and their collections reflect this longstanding passion for gardens and garden plants. Today the collections are a treasure trove for anyone interested in learning more about the history and art of gardening and many of our members use it as part of their research into the history of gardens in Buckinghamshire. So if you have never been now is your chance. If you are a frequent/infrequent visitor come and browse and see the treasures of the Library. The Library team promise to share a selection on rare books, botanical artwork and objects from the archives and photographic collections.
How to get there: The nearest station to RHS Lindley Library is Victoria Station (Circle & District Victoria Lines)
Caring for the collections: There are lockers for storing personal bags and items and of course no food or drink in the library. Please avoid using flash photography.
Catering: there is none on site but many shops, restaurants and cafes locally. A recommendation for coffee/lunch is the the Vegan Brassarie (which is owned by the Blue Orchid hotel) which is a minute and a half walk round the corner on Vane Street. A coffee is about £3.50 and it is spacious for either dropping in, or booking a table – reservations@theveganbrasserie.com….
Accessibility: Please note the Collections up Close tour takes place in the Lower Reading Room of the of RHS Lindley Library. It is not a fully accessible site, meaning in the event of an emergency visitors to the venue must be able to independently manage the stairs. They do have toilets on site, but please do be aware of the accessibility limitations.
We suggest those who have booked a ticket meet at the Library which is open to the public from 10am; you can stay warm and browse the books. The tour starts at 11.30 am. Bucks GT memebers will also be welcome to browse the collections after the Collections up Close tour finishes at approximately 1.00 pm. Reminder that to protect the collections no food or drinks are allowed in the library.
