Buckinghamshire Gardens Trust members are invited to :
North Buckinghamshire has many varied and beautiful private gardens and this year they are generously being opened for the day on Wednesday 23rd June 2021 to raise funds for the Buckinghamshire Historic Churches Trust. This is also a unique opportunity to visit some very special churches and have a day out exploring another part of our historic county – for just £20! Some of these villages are probably totally unfamiliar to many so we very much hope that you will make time to visit them and thus help support the Trust.

Chetwode
The Priory garden is open by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Cooper. A landscaped garden with few flower beds but wonderful views with walks and lakes. The parish church of St Mary and St Nicholas comprises the remains of an Augustinian priory built
in 1250, with the best mediaeval glass in Buckinghamshire.
Hillesden
Hillesden House garden, open by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Robin Faccenda, has mainly evergreen shrubbery around the house but with lakes and a deer park.
The Old Vicarage garden also open by kind permission of Mr and Mrs David Steel who have
created an interesting gravel garden on a disused hard tennis court.
All Saints Church has been described as “the cathedral in the fields”. It is a castellated, turreted perpendicular church with stunning tracery and glass, and a very fine example of late 15th century architecture.
Padbury
Kingsbridge Farm garden, open by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Tom Aldous, is a largely informal garden of about 5 acres full of structure and interest, with topiary, gazebo, winding paths and woodland. A light lunch will be available here between 12 noon and 2pm.
The church of St Mary the Virgin, Padbury, with the main mediaeval fabric dating from the 13th and early 14th century. Of particular note are the 14th century windows of the clerestory and wall paintings of about 1330.
Quainton
Banner Farmhouse garden is open by kind permission of Mrs Sue Wright and has a herbaceous border, wide variety of shrubs and vegetable/fruit area with raised beds.
The Parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Holy Cross contains a wealth of interesting
monuments and brasses. The Dormer Monument is by one of the principal sculptors of 18th century
England, namely the Flemish Sculptor, Michael Rysbrack.
Winslow
Abbots House garden is open by kind permission of Jane and Steve Rennie and has a variety of areas including a restored Victorian walled garden with all areas enjoying the protection of red brick walls and a wonderful view of St Laurence Church.
15A Vicarage Road garden is also open by kind permission of Anne Fraser and likewise St Laurence church is a magnificent backdrop to it. Considerably altered over the last three years it faces full south and is partly walled.
The Parish Church of St Laurence is built of predominantly yellow sandstone and this imposing 14th century church stands in the middle of the town and is shared by Catholic and Anglican congregations.
