Guided Tour by Head Gardener, Colin Roberts of this gem oa a garden on the borders of Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire.
“Just south of Thame in Oxfordshire lies Adwell House (II*) and its estate. The gardens were first developed in 1780s by Elizabeth Newell with gently sloping lawns, a kitchen garden, and a system of successive pools and cataracts with a rocky waterfall which remains a major feature. She also planted numerous trees, many of which survive today. Those planted in the Victorian era are still a major feature of the garden. Successive owners have continued this tradition leading to some 7,000 trees today.
In the late 20c, a series of lakes was built around which over 40,000 daffodils have been planted in the past few years. There are about 350 different varieties blooming in the spring.
We can look forward to a guided tour by the head gardener, Colin Roberts, including the church, which was rebuilt in the Early Decorated style in 1865 by Sir Arthur Blomfield (uncle of Reginald) followed by a cream tea.”
