The 25-hectare site originates in the early medieval period, and has a C7 Saxon burial mound in its grounds, early-C18 pleasure garden and a small park.
Robert Marnock has recently been attributed as the C19 garden designer responsible for the formal gardens with adjacent lawns and woodland walks. Claire de Carle and Trust Researchers have produced a report and display about Marnock’s work covering a cluster of three sites (including Taplow Court) in the south of the historic county.
The Grade II registered garden at Taplow Court is thought to have been one of Marnock’s principal works during the 1860s and 70s.
